NUTPOOL is an international project that will be coordinated by Dr. Marta Guasch-Ferré at the Section of Epidemiology, Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen (UCPH), Denmark; and co-coordinated by Prof. Jordi Salas-Salvadó at the Human Nutrition Unit, Institut d’Investigació Sanitària Pere i Virgili (IISPV), Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), Spain.

Dr. Marta Guasch-Ferré will serve as the PI and coordinator of NUTPOOL. She is an Associate Professor and group leader at UCPH and also holds an appointment as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, Boston, US. Her research focuses on investigating the role of dietary and lifestyle factors in chronic diseases, specifically, CVD and T2D. She is an experienced nutritional epidemiologist with a strong track record in the field. She has led several studies in prospective large cohort studies including the wellknown Harvard cohorts. Currently, she is the group leader of the ‘Nutrition, -omics, and cardiometabolic diseases’ at UCPH. Her group includes two postdocs, one PhD student, and a data analyst. Additionally, she mentors other postdocs and PhD students from other research groups including those at Harvard University. Her research activities have resulted in numerous manuscripts, including many first-author publications in high-impact journals, and she has been awarded various competitive European and American grants. She is currently the PI of a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded grant (Full CV is attached). She has an H-index of 44 and has published over 135 scientific articles. Her research projects and publication record have demonstrated that she has the expertise, leadership, training, and motivation necessary to successfully carry out the proposed research project.

Prof. Jordi SalasSalvadó is a Full Professor at the URV and the group leader of HNU, URV. HNU aims to strengthen evidence-based practice in nutrition and dietetics by creating and consolidating knowledge on the role of food, food components and dietary patterns, and their metabolism in health and disease. The unit has extensive experience in epidemiological and clinical studies on obesity, T2D, CVD, and cognition/dementia, and has received multiple research grants from various National, and International (European, USA-NIH, Canada, Indiaand Malaysia) public health bodies. HNU coordinates clinical trials analyzing the beneficial effects of nuts on human health (EFINUT, EPIRDEM, FERTINUTS) and has an excellent track record of high-impact publications. HNU organized the recent NUTS2022, an international conference sponsored by the International Nut & Dried Fruit Council bringing together leaders of the nut and dried fruit industry to consolidate and strategize future work on nut consumption for health. Prof. Salas-Salvadó is a member of the steering Committee of PREDIMED and the Coordinator of the PREDIMED-Plus study, two large lifestyle intervention RTC in primary prevention of CVD. He has published >900 indexed scientific articles with a h-index of 127 and 80,000 citations He has directed 36 Doctoral Theses, and currently directs 11 PhD students. He has received numerous national and international honors and distinction awards in recognition of his excellent contribution to science and academia.
